Through a series of experiences this programme creates the opportunity for sixth formers to explore issues in a constructive environment alongside building their leadership skills, to then use within the school culture and wider.
This programme is delivered through the following events:
Skills Day — this is a single day delivered in the school. Throughout this the pupils will build skills in area including communication, team-building, working with other, leadership and dialogue skills. The pupils will then use these skills to discuss issues which affect them as young people in Northern Ireland.
Residential — a number of schools will be brought together from across the education spectrum to participate in a weekend residential. During this the participants will have the opportunity to learn about them selves, other people, Northern Ireland and the world through discussing issues. This residential presents the chance for the young people to build significant relationships with people from other different communities, Religions and traditions.
Conference — the annual one-day conference gives the participants a chance to review what they have learnt from their experiences in the Together programme. A primary focus of this event is to focus the participants on how they will use their learning and skills to make positive contributions with their own friends, families and communities.
Peer Mentoring Development
In order to support sixth formers to effectively take on a peer-mentoring leadership role within their school community the Together programme is involved in running a development programme. Within this the sixth formers will have the opportunity to effectively build the necessary skills to fulfill such a role effectively. Further to this the young people are given the support needed when taking on such a role.
